How is a Kua number calculated?

First resolve the Feng Shui birth year, reduce the final two year digits, apply the disclosed traditional formula, then use a fixed direction table.

AH uses 4 February as a disclosed date-only convention and flags 3–5 February for verification because the exact Li Chun instant varies by year and timezone. Raw Kua 5 is interpreted as 2 for males and 8 for females.

What is a Kua number?

A Kua, or personal Gua, is a traditional Eight Mansions number used to identify four favourable personal directions and an East or West group.

Is Kua the same as Gua?

In English-language Feng Shui material, Kua and Gua are commonly used for the same personal Eight Mansions number.

How is Kua number calculated?

AH resolves the Feng Shui birth year, reduces the final two year digits, applies the disclosed male or female formula, handles raw Kua 5, then reads a fixed direction table.

Does gender affect Kua calculation?

Yes. The traditional method uses different male and female formula conventions. The calculator asks which traditional calculation gender to apply.

Why does Li Chun matter?

Many Eight Mansions implementations begin the calculation year around Li Chun in early February rather than on 1 January.

What happens if my Kua calculation produces 5?

AH stores raw Kua 5, then follows the common convention of effective Kua 2 for males and effective Kua 8 for females.

What are East Group and West Group?

East Group contains Kua 1, 3, 4 and 9. West Group contains Kua 2, 6, 7 and 8.

What is Sheng Qi?

Sheng Qi is traditionally associated with growth, opportunity, achievement and prosperity.

What is Tian Yi?

Tian Yi is traditionally associated with wellbeing and support.

What is Yan Nian?

Yan Nian is traditionally associated with relationships and interpersonal harmony.

Does Kua tell me where to put a fountain?

Not automatically. Personal orientation and moving-water placement are distinct layers of Feng Shui analysis.

Do I need my birth time?

Not for the standard date-based Kua result, except that an exact time and timezone may be needed to resolve a birth on the Li Chun transition day precisely.

Do I need my birthplace?

Not for the standard Kua formula. Location becomes relevant only when resolving the exact Li Chun instant and timezone close to the boundary.
